I decided to create this blog a while back when I discovered that ideas move very slowly in print (and pay) music theory journals. Articles must be well written and polished, presenting information in a more-or-less final form. This may be a fabulous way to get research grants, but is extremely ineffective in bouncing ideas around. Besides, formal journals are very expensive and numerous (especially when everyone does not have access to JSTOR all of the time... and even then, JSTOR is several years behind on average).
I decided that the blog could be an effective medium for networking ideas for open discussion. Hopefully this blind faith in the intellectual commons will play-out well :)
